From Inspiration to Installation: Handrail Project
Our client revitalized their entryway and main living area. Years ago, the original fireplace had been covered and remodeled, concealing this key feature. The client decided to bring it back to life, making it the focal point of the living space, creating a striking centerpiece in their new design. The existing outdated wooden banister handrail on the stairway no longer matched this new aesthetic, so they wanted to replaced it with a custom-designed wrought iron handrail.
The client sought a subtle yet elegant design to complement their white décor and walnut floors. After seeing photos from a stay at a London hotel, where they admired a particular staircase, we sketched an overall design inspired by the pictures. The end flare became a key focal point in the final design, adding to the overall charm of the project.
Design Origin: The Influential End Flare
Design Layout and fabrication
We sourced the balusters, top rail, and end flare from a local bespoke ironworks business that specializes in creating a wide variety of custom iron designs.
We took precise measurements of the stairs' angle and the landing area it led to. To help the client visualize the final design, we created cardboard templates and arranged them on-site, ensuring the rails would fit the space as envisioned. We also brought samples of the handrail and balusters, placing them in the area so the client could get a clear sense of how everything would look. This step guaranteed that the final outcome would match their expectations.
A Beautiful Handrail Realized
The fabrication took three days, and the installation was completed in eight hours. As an afterthought, we had to install the stair balusters, wall handrail, and floor landing rails in a freshly decorated space. We worked with great care to avoid damaging the newly painted walls, floors, and surrounding area, ensuring there was no extra work for the decorator. Overall, the client was thrilled with their new addition, which perfectly complements the renovated area and enhances the aesthetic of their home.
